Starting when Taran was about 6 months I tried to follow the "put them down for a nap when they are drowsy but awake" advice. Well Taran would be practically asleep and I'd put him in his crib, tip toe out of the room and... He'd sit up and start playing! I assumed he wasn't tired a couple times but quickly learned yes he's tired but would rather play until he's absolutely exhausted. Connor Junior INDEED!
